How it Works

    • Growing Chefs’ Classroom Gardening and Cooking Program will begin early in 2024 this school year.

    • The program consists of a number of lessons and various themes related gardening, cooking, and sharing food.

    • Classroom visits typically occur on the same weekday (based on your schedule).

    • A team of three or four volunteers is paired with your class to deliver our hands-on gardening and cooking curriculum.

    • Growing Chefs provides all the materials needed for our lessons including materials for creating a classroom garden and all program equipment and learning materials.

    • Prior to beginning the program you will receive a Teacher’s Kit that outlines the program and provides you with copies of handouts as well as additional extension and integration lessons.

    • All of our lessons are designed to be in line with the provincial curriculum and learning outcomes, and teaches kids the skills and knowledge to make healthy food choices.

    • There is a $500 program fee to deliver the program to your classroom that helps us cover the cost of equipment and food. No school is ever turned away for lack of funds. If you require a subsidy please let us know.

    • Applications for our Spring 2024 program year will open this winter. Please note, applications will be reviewed in Feb/March 2023, but are accepted on a first-come-first-served basis and are dependent on our volunteer capacity.
