Overall Summary
Growing Chefs! is excited to bring on a Program Assistant to support our Growing Chefs! Classroom Gardening and Cooking program. Our Program Assistant will support our front-line program teams, provide administrative assistance and lead community outreach efforts.   
 
This position is a 16-week full time contract funded by the Canada Summer Jobs initiative. Candidates must be returning full time students to be eligible. Please visit the Canada Summer Jobs to see list of eligibility criteria.  This hiring of this role is pending funding.
 
In this key support role, the Program Assistant will be responsible for supporting and enriching the volunteer experiences of the chefs, as well as contributing to the administration of Growing Chefs! It will offer the successful candidate an inside view of the workings of a non-profit environment, and provide valuable training and job skills applicable to both the for-profit and non-profit sectors.
 
We are looking for an individual passionate about food sustainability and working with children and volunteers to help our front-line program facilitators to maximize their experience with Growing Chefs! We are also seeking a candidate keen to assist with the support and development of our non-profit administrative tasks.
 
This position is a full-time 30 hours/wk position. The anticipated start date is May 22nd, 2013, but may change pending funding.
Responsibilities

Program Coordination:

  • Act as a liaison between volunteer teams and Growing Chefs! staff and provide assistance to volunteer teams in planning and delivering the Growing Chefs! lessons. 
  • Report and help manage any problems or challenges experienced by volunteer teams.
  • Coordinate and maintain program equipment.

Administration/Fundraising

  • Assist with administrative support, coordination, marketing and promotion of Growing Chefs! fundraising campaigns and events.
  • Assist with administrative duties, such as data entry, reporting, scheduling, filing, and other duties as needed.

Communications

  • Provide regular updates on class successes and challenges.
  • Generate content and update social media sites, online postings, blog, and website.
  • Provide general support and assistance to all participating teachers and volunteers.

Community Outreach

  • Participate in and coordinate Growing Chefs! community outreach workshops and community events.
  • Attend community outreach events and host Growing Chefs! outreach tables and festival booths.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Potential candidates should possess:

  • Experience working with and managing a volunteer base and an understanding of volunteer relations.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent organization skills, ability to work to strict deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Experience working with children and youth in an educational environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft word, Excel, Google Documents, and MailChimp
  • A passion for supporting local and urban agriculture.

Additional skills an asset:

  • Experience in community outreach and community events
  • An understanding of data management and constituent relationship management
  • An understanding of online and offline marketing and promotions
  • Basic knowledge of InDesign and Photoshop
  • Basic knowledge of SalesForce
